FAER established the Academy of Research Mentors in Anesthesiology to facilitate the development of educational and research programs for junior faculty and to foster faculty in mentoring roles. The Academy is a resource for the development of new mentors and role models in academic anesthesia.
Academy members include academic anesthesiologists and others who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to the development of anesthesiologist investigators. The main criterion for membership is the quantity and quality of an individual’s mentees. Information submitted for membership includes the years each mentee was mentored and the current status of mentees including academic rank, current activities, and NIH, industrial or other major funding for their current research activities.
Each June, Academy members and members of the Association of Academic Anesthesiology Chairs are invited to nominate colleagues for membership in the Academy of Research Mentors in Anesthesiology. Nominees from underrepresented populations are encouraged. All nominations are reviewed by a membership selection committee and submitted for a final vote by all Academy members in the fall.

The Academy President is Roger Johns, MD. For questions about the Academy, contact Dr. Johns directly or email Mary Schrandt, FAER Programs Coordinator, at schrandt.mary@mayo.edu.
