ANESTHESIOLOGY® 2017

FAER Shark Tank — Entrepreneurs in Anesthesiology

Application Form

Background Information:

Beginning in 2014, a group of FAER Board of Directors members began work on methods FAER could use to support education and research in entrepreneurship. A proposal for a session at ANESTHESIOLOGY® 2017 called FAER Shark Tank will provide education and networking for entrepreneurs in the specialty.

Description:

Anesthesiology has a long history of innovation, entrepreneurship, and close interactions between academicians, private practitioners, and industry to bring new concepts to the clinical arena and better care for our patients. Using an entertaining format of Shark Tank, this session will present anesthesiologists with ideas for innovations to a panel of experts involved in developing such innovations to market to educate the audience regarding the multiple steps involved in the process and provide resources for those who hope to advance the practice through innovation.

Logistics:

FAER seeks applications from entrepreneurs who have secured intellectual property rights for their invention(s) to present to the panel. Three individuals will be selected. Following brief introductory remarks, each applicant would present their invention within 5 minutes followed by a panel Q&A and discussion period geared to educate the audience on resources and processes appropriate to that individual in that stage of invention development. The format would diverge from the television show in that the emphasis would be on education. All presenters must be an ASA member in good standing.
