Marking 25 years since our incorporation in 1986, the year 2011 is an exciting one for the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research. FAER was originally founded to create more research opportunities for anesthesiologists. Over the years, it has evolved to serve a broader mission to advance medicine through education and research in anesthesiology.
A founding member of the FAER Board of Directors, Alan D. Sessler, MD, served as the foundation’s executive director/president from 1995 to 2011. In 2010, the FAER board announced Dr. Sessler’s successor, Denham S. Ward, MD, PhD, an accomplished physician scientist with a long history of leadership in anesthesiology. Dr. Sessler wrote an article for the ASA Newsletter, in which he reflected on his service at FAER, called “Privileged to Serve.”
